Tragic accident kills 4 and injures more in Placerville | News
EL DORADO COUNTY - A major car accident near Placerville killed 4 and injured several more on Saturday night.
The collision happened at about 6 p.m. when a Toyota Prius and Toyota minivan collided on Hwy 50 near Still Meadow Road.
Battalion Chief Michael Pott says that a total of 9 people were involved in the collision.
Preliminary reports say that the Prius, carrying 4 people, was traveling westbound when for an unknown reason the car veered out of the traffic lane, traveled sideways into oncoming traffic, and was broadsided by the minivan.
3 people in the Prius were pronounced dead by emergency officials at the scene. A 4th passenger was transported to the hospital.
1 child that was traveling in the minivan was also transported to a hospital where they later died, says Pott.
Though 5 people were transported to various hospitals CHP says that not all of them sustained injuries. It is said that two 1-year-olds in the mini van were properly restrained and did not suffer any injuries in the crash.
The condition of those injured are not known at this time.
The eastbound lanes of Hwy 50 was closed for a prolonged length of time and the westbound lanes were used for one lane traffic control.
