EL DORADO COUNTY, CA - A man and a woman were found dead Sunday night in a fire at an El Dorado County home in the Pilot Hill community.

According to the El Dorado County Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the home on the 4500 block of Salmon Falls Road around 6 p.m.

Firefighters did not specify whether the bodies were located during firefighting efforts or in the post-fire investigation.

Relatives identified the victims as Steve and Stevie Stephenson. They said she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.

The two moved from Alaska to Pilot Hill five years ago, family members said.

A caretaker lived in a cottage behind the Stephensons' residence.

A nieghbor saw smoke from the victims' home and tried to enter but the smoke was too thick, relatives said.
